Birdhouse Skateboards
The history of Birdhouse
In 1992, at a time in skateboarding history when the business of skateboarding looked bleak, Tony Hawk did the unthinkable... he founded a skateboard company. Originally called Birdhouse Projects, it was founded on the premise that you have to support and nurture something you love. You put together the best and most dedicated team of skateboarders and do what you love: skateboarding. And 24 years later, Birdhouse is still thriving, with one of the best teams in the sport, built on respect, camaraderie, authenticity and a love for what they do.
Over the years, the team has included some of the most famous names in skateboarding. In the beginning, the team was led by Tony Hawk and consisted of Jeremy Klein, Steve Berra and Willy Santos. Later it was Ocean Howell, Matt Beach, Paul Zitzer, Andrew Reynolds, Brian Sumner, Steve Nesser, Bucky Lasek and Heath Kirchart who made waves. They toured the world, starred in the hit Tony Hawk's Pro Skater video games and delivered some of the most iconic and memorable video parts in skate history in Birdhouse's The End and Feasters.
Today, the Birdhouse team includes some of the most respected and recognizable names in the sport, appearing on the covers of Thrasher, The Skateboard Mag and TransWorld Skateboarding magazines. They've toured the world, won Thrasher King of the Road two years in a row and racked up video views on The Ride Channel, Thrasher and The Berrics.
THE TEAM
Of course, the Birdhouse team always begins and ends with Tony Hawk, probably the most famous action athlete in the history of this genre. His achievements as an athlete are unparalleled: 12-time world champion, 16-time medal winner at the X-Games, first skateboarder to do the 900 and inventor of almost 100 tricks. The list goes on and on. As a cult athlete and role model, Tony is also one of the most sought-after product advertisers, speakers and entrepreneurs in the world. With a social media following in the millions, Tony is as well known as it gets.
But this team is not built on history.
The Birdhouse team is pure, modern skateboarding with some of the most recognizable skaters in the sport. Innovators, future legends and fan favorites make this team one of the most respected and popular in skateboarding. Aaron "Jaws" Homoki, Ben Raybourn, David Loy, Shawn Hale, Clint Walker, Clive Dixon, Mike Davis, Lizzie Armanto and Elliot Sloan.
