Schon mit 16 Jahren ist Ali Boulala an der Spitze der Skateboard-Welt angekommen: Das schwedische Wunderkind schnappt sich ein Sponsoring von Flip Skateboards, das ihn auf dem Höhepunkt des Skate-Wahns der 90er Jahre nach LA bringt. Er verbringt seine Tage damit, an neuen Tricks für DIY-Videos zu feilen und hängt mit einer Gruppe frühreifer Teenage-Profis ab, die ihn für sein Charisma und seinen punkigen Stil feiern. Aber die Freuden des ausgelassenen Tourlebens fordern ihren Tribut und führen zu einem tragischen Unfall, der Alis Leben für immer verändern wird.

Swedish teenager Ali Boulala quickly becomes known as the most captivating and eccentric skateboarder of his time. The original Baker Boy, the petulant Piss Drunk, and the guy who almost ollied a set of 25 stairs in Lyon, Ali is a living legend until he almost isn’t.
2007
In Melbourne, Australia, Ali and his friend
Shane Cross take a drunken motorcycle ride without helmets which results in a
life-altering crash. Severely injured, Shane dies in hospital. In a coma for four months, Ali awakens to face a prison sentence, and never returns to skateboarding.
2013
Spiralling into grief, depression and substance abuse, Ali makes a choice; to get sober and get help.
2021
Max Eriksson’s documentary film “The Scars of Ali Boulala” premieres at Tribeca Film Festival. With video footage from private archives and exclusive interviews, the film shows Ali’s journey through brokenness and recovery, and shines a light on the importance for us all to be vulnerable with one another, to open up and talk.
