Bones wheels

Bones Wheels are the best-selling and most recommended wheels in our skate store in Cologne and in our online store. And not without reason! You can read why here...

Many skaters assume that the performance and quality of skate wheels are all the same. A wheel is a wheel is a wheel, they often say. But that is not the case. In fact, there are huge differences between the raw materials, manufacturing process, quality control and performance of different wheel brands. Until now, a skateboard wheel's reputation has been a combination of market hype, market strength, skater support and word of mouth. The popularity of BONES WHEELS is largely the result of superior quality, performance and durability.

REAL VALUE Bones wheels may not be the cheapest, but our abrasion test table shows why BONES WHEELS have the best price-performance ratio. After all, what good is a cheaper wheel if it goes flat on the first day? BONES WHEELS offers the best combination of product performance, durability, quality and customer service available today. In other words, you may find a lower price, but you'll never find better value.

Where are Bones wheels produced?

OUR STRENGTH All of BONES WHEELS' unique formulas are developed and manufactured exclusively in our own production facility in Ventura, California. With drastically different physical and technical properties for each formula, BONES WHEELS creates unique urethanes for specific skateboarding applications.

The Powell Peralta name has been synonymous with constant innovation in production in the skateboarding world since the 70s. With that in mind, it's fitting to say that George Powell's offshoot, BONES Wheels, has followed a similar path of developing revolutionary new concepts in the urethane department and breaking the molds (both literally and figuratively) used to shape skateboard wheels as we know them.

Bones Wheels was founded in 1977 by George Powell in Santa Barbara, California. Just one year after the release of the first Powell Peralta decks, George Powell's work on developing BONES Wheels began in the kitchen, where the chemically savvy creator developed a formula called MDI diphenylmethane diisocyanate. The particularly difficult mixture consisted of two commercially available compounds, where 90% of one compound had to be mixed with 10% of the other. Because of this peculiarity, Powell had difficulty determining the correct ratio before finally adjusting it. The result of this mixture was an opaque wheel that, unlike any other semi-transparent wheel on the market, was the first to have a solid white color. Judging by their skeletal hue, these wheels were later called "BONES".

Another outstanding feature of these wheels was their patented double radius design. By developing a wheel that was curved on the sides instead of the flat wheels common at the time, Powell changed the way skateboard wheels ride and wear. As soon as they hit the market, other manufacturers rushed to emulate the design, cementing the Powell model as the industry standard.

Never one to rest on his laurels, Powell continued to work over the next five years to develop what he felt was an even better compound for skate wheels, the V-IV formula. Rob Washburn, the current brand manager, said of Powell's intentions: "His vision and goal was to develop a urethane wheel with higher rebound, faster roll and longer life. He has been making better and better products ever since."

IOver the years, BONES wheels have produced several other innovations, including the first center set wheel and the first high performance double action hardcore bushing. These are applications that have been celebrated and adapted not only in the street skateboarding world, but also in the longboarding world. Today, the brand touts a lineup of five different formulas for all of their production wheels, including their popular STF and ATF constructions. Speaking about the capabilities of these formulas, Washburn said: "BONES has a very diverse range of formulas. Each of them has been specifically developed and designed to achieve the highest performance on the terrain in question. Because of our very diverse and original formulas, BONES has the ability to satisfy and serve all facets of skateboarding."

In addition to manufacturing wheels, BONES has been a major contributor to skateboard culture by supporting skateboarders from all walks of life and backgrounds. From supporting legends like Steve Caballero and Tony Hawk, to aspiring amateurs like Jagger Eaton and Keegan Palmer, to thousands of kids on the streets, BONES wheels are embraced by skaters of all skill levels. BONES was even the first company to introduce a female pro wheel for Leticia Bufoni in 2015.

What can we expect in the future?

For the future, BONES wheels and the entire Skate One empire show no signs of slowing down. Washburn, who is focused on creating the best experience for his customers, spoke about his ambitions and the strategies behind them: "BONES is focused on long-term goals, not short-term wins. We are constantly testing new urethane technologies to develop the best performing formulas for future generations. BONES has its own factory in Santa Barbara, California, and is possibly one of the few brands that mold and manufacture all of their own urethanes in the USA. As a result, they are the only brand that is hands on to ensure the highest quality components are produced and delivered to the end user."

Bones X-Formula

X- Formula™ (XF) is another industry-leading innovation from BONES WHEELS. X-Formula rolls over rough terrain like softer wheels, but glides like a harder wheel. Speed: X-Formula™ is extremely fast because it has a super high rebound. X-Formula rolls much smoother and faster on any terrain because it absorbs vibrations and absorbs shocks much better than any other wheel on the market.

Grip & Slide: The glide comes from its unique blend of high-performance materials. X-Formula slides when you want it to and grips when you need it most. That's because X-Formula has been specially formulated for every terrain. It has been developed over a period of ten years to optimize performance and tune it to perfection. X-Formula is a very unique product.

Durability: X-Formula™ is smooth, fast and durable. It has been developed using the highest quality and most durable materials. X-Formula has a great price to performance ratio, and because it softens landings and absorbs vibrations, it is also better for your body, which can lead to a longer lifespan of your normal skating day. These wheels will change your life!

Bones STF wheels

BONES Street Tech Formula® powers the legendary BONES STF wheels that roll fast, grip when you need it, and slide when you want it - without flat spotting. STF gives you more control to skate with confidence. BONES STF wheels outperform all other wheels and last many times longer than normal wheels due to their high wear and tear, making STF wheels the best wheels for less money. BONES STF wheels are available in the original 103A and the new 99A Street Tech Formula™ for more control and softer landings on rough terrain.

Bones SPF wheels

BONES® Skatepark Formula™ (SPF) is a very high quality urethane specifically designed to prevent flatspotting on smooth or slick surfaces while providing a higher rebound for faster response and rolling. Skatepark Formula has high abrasion resistance without compromising hardness and slideability. Simply put... BONES Skatepark Formula grips better on smooth surfaces, it's almost impossible to get a flatspot, and they are the fastest and most durable wheels on the market. You won't find BONES Skatepark Formula at any other wheel specialist, so pick up a set and find out for yourself what the SPF is all about.

Bones ATF wheels

All-Terrain Formula™ wheels are molded with a special soft urethane that we call All-Terrain Formula or (ATF). ATF Wheels are great for rough terrain. Regardless of road quality, this revolutionary formula will get you to your destination quickly and smoothly.

Bones 100 og wheels

BONES WHEELS® 100 Original Formula™ is the great-grandson of the white MDI urethane we pioneered in 1977. This family of urethanes has become an industry standard, and because we develop our own formulas in-house, we have been able to consistently keep the BONES Original Formula™ ahead of all other MDI-based wheels in terms of rebound and abrasion. This offers skaters the highest level of performance at a price that makes them a real value. Our Original Formula is another BONES exclusive.

BONES BUSHINGS

With BONES Bushings™ you will notice a number of positive improvements in the performance of your trucks. There is no break-in period. Just put them in, adjust them and drive off. Your axles will respond faster. Improved truck performance Improves your skate experience. Your turns will be smooth and positive, not limp or stiff. 3 degrees of hardness: Hard Bushing: 96A, Medium Bushing: 91A, Soft Bushing: 81A. The HardCore insert in the center of the BONES bushings connects the two sides of each bushing by gluing them to the HardCore insert. When the hanger bar compresses one side of a HardCore bushing, that side of the bushing reacts like a normal bushing, but the chemical bond between the HardCore and the bushing prevents the bushing on the other side from being pushed out. It even increases the resistance to turning as it is held in place by the HardCore insert. This basically means that BOTH sides of the BONES HardCore bushings resist the turning force. That's why we call BONES bushings the first double-acting axle bushings.
